Calwell High School Dance Programs
Calwell High School Dance programs combine academic quality, artistic merit and have an emphasis on health and wellbeing. We provide differentiated learning to students of all skills and ability to cater to their individual needs. We have great facilities with two dance studios and professional theatre for student use.
Students have the opportunity to choose Dance as their physical exercise class across their whole year 7-10 schooling, allowing them to develop their skills across a number of years in a safe and supportive environment. When studying Dance at Calwell High, students will focus on four integrated areas including choreography, performances, health concepts and fitness/technique.
In years 9/10 students also have the opportunity to apply for the senior Choreographic Workshop leadership class, an extension program designed to expand and enhance their skills across dance performance, technique, flexibility and choreography. These students have the opportunity to plan, compose and teach dance works to junior students and build upon their performance skills.
There are also multiple performances events available across the year including:
- Calwell High annual Showcase (Semester one live performance)
- Ausdance Youth Dance Festival (Live performance with other ACT participating schools at the Canberra Theatre)
- Calwell High annual Arts Extravaganza (Semester two live performance)
